We’ve just had the most wonderful few days at East Lodge, tucked away on the @longleatofficial Longleat Estate.
Originally dating from 1761–1763 and later remodelled in the early 19th century by Jeffry Wyatville, it has that wonderful sense of history that I love……without ever feeling too formal.
The interiors were beautiful. Layers of fabric, pattern, wallpaper and colour, with so many thoughtful details in every room. It felt elegant, comfortable and incredibly welcoming, the sort of place that immediately makes you want to come home and redecorate everything.
The setting is incredibly special too, surrounded by glorious countryside, with The Bath Arms just down the road, which was an absolute gem.
And of course, being at Longleat, we couldn’t stay tucked away for long, we headed out to explore with a private VIP safari, which was such a special experience and one I’d absolutely recommend.
One of those stays that gives you endless interiors inspiration… and makes it very hard to leave.

Yesterday, 0.3 miles into my run, the heavens opened ☔️
Relentless, hard rain.
I could have turned around but I realised something as I carried on, I don’t really turn back.
Nearly three years ago, I started LA Agency with a very clear idea of the kind of business I wanted to build, and an absolute determination to make it work.
There have been steep climbs, easier stretches, rocky paths and moments when the route ahead hasn’t looked particularly inviting.
And there have also been times when building a business has felt very solitary. When the worry sits with you, the decisions are yours to make, and there isn’t always someone there to carry the weight of it with you.
But you keep going.
You trust yourself. You keep putting one foot in front of the other. You stay committed to what you set out to build.
So, yesterday morning, soaked through and running up Daisy Bank, I was reminded how much that same mentality has carried me through the last three years.
Sometimes you don’t need perfect conditions.
You just need to keep going 💪🏼

Over the last three weeks, I’ve been invited into 10 homes to talk about selling.
Seven of those conversations came through recommendations. One was a returning client from 20 years ago. One found me via my website. One came simply from meeting someone at a viewing.
There’s something quite special about seeing a business grow this way.
Not through bought leads or a huge corporate machine, but through people talking, recommending, remembering and trusting me enough to pass my name on.
Of course, beautiful marketing matters. Photography matters. Social media matters, but I’m increasingly reminded that the most powerful marketing of all is still a happy client telling someone else about their experience.
For an independent agent, I don’t think there’s a better compliment.
And I never take it for granted. 🤍

The last month has been a bit of a whirlwind, in the best possible way.
Brindley House has exchanged, The Mews has exchanged and completed, and I’ve been delighted to bring some wonderful new homes to the market, including The Coach House, Park Place and Heylens Barn.
There have been new instructions, properties going under offer, our first Neptune event, and lots happening behind the scenes with some very exciting homes already being prepared for September.
Amongst all of that, there’s also the other very important part of my life; being mummy. School holidays, short breaks, lots of juggling, and really trying to make sure I’m present for the little moments too.
Balancing running my own agency and being a present parent can be full-on at times, but I feel incredibly fortunate to do both, and very grateful for the trust my clients place in me.
This time last year I was preparing to re launch 🚀 with LA Agency’s new and much improved look!

I do have a habit of setting myself slightly questionable challenges (including once running a half marathon with basically no training & cycling from London to Brighton 🚴♀️), and this is the latest one…

If you know Daisy Bank, you’ll know this isn’t quite the same as a gentle jog around the block, it’s steep. 😂

A few days in Mallorca last week with a very special friend, hiking up the Puig de Maria, swimming, laughing, eating extremely well and talking ourselves into oblivion.
The joy of running my own business is that I can occasionally work from somewhere like this.
The reality of running my own business is that I’m still taking calls halfway up a mountain, answering emails by the pool and making sure an exchange and completion get safely over the line from another country.
Not quite an out-of-office… but definitely a very lovely change of office and much needed few days away☀️

Apparently, I’ve started dressing to match the properties I sell.
Navy, cream, soft blue… followed by an entirely neutral moment at the next one.
Completely unintentional, obviously. Although perhaps spending this much time thinking about interiors and presentation is beginning to show. 🤎

“Hello…..I live here” (guess the movie)
Continuing my love affair with Neptune… but this time, it’s @neptuneswindon.
The Swindon outlet and showroom are so worth a visit. Alongside the outlet itself, all the rooms are beautifully curated, so you can see the furniture and kitchens properly in situ, incredibly helpful and also slightly dangerous.
Over the last few months, I’ve somehow come home with a Fermoie lampshade, a sideboard, a set of drawers, a pendant light and a Chichester wardrobe made especially for a magazine shoot.
There’s also a lovely restaurant, the staff are always so helpful, and I’m still trying to gain access to the “back” warehouse despite repeatedly offering myself for “work experience” 🙋🏼♀️
I even bumped into some clients yesterday while I was there, and we ended up discussing how a few carefully chosen pieces can completely change a space, without doing anything permanent, and with the added bonus that you can take them with you when you move.
A browse never really stays a browse…

A comment stopped me in my tracks this week.
It simply said:
“Maddie, doing it all in such a professional and refreshing way, brilliant marketing in such an elegant way.”
It was such a kind thing to say, and it made me smile.
It also reminded me of a half marathon I ran back in 2014. The funny thing is, I wasn’t a runner. I’d only agreed to do it a few days beforehand to keep a friend company.
As we started, he said, “If I need to break away, I’ll see you at the finish.” Which was completely fair given my lack of training!! But all I remember thinking was ~ no chance, I’m sticking with you. I’m in this for the long haul my friend!
What got me through wasn’t fitness. It was determination… but it was also encouragement.
I still remember the crowds lining the route. They didn’t know me, but every clap and every cheer gave me a little more belief that I could keep going. It’s interesting how encouragement works.
Sometimes it comes from the people closest to you. Sometimes it comes from someone you know but weren’t expecting it from. And often, it comes from people you’ve never even met.
Either way, it has a way of arriving exactly when it’s needed.

After more than 20 years in the property industry, I started LA Agency because I wanted to do things differently. I didn’t just want to be part of the beginning, I wanted to be part of the whole journey ~ no endless handovers, no being passed from person to person. Just one trusted point of contact from our very first conversation to handing over the keys.
For me, selling a home isn’t just about square footage, floorplans or meeting targets. It’s about understanding the people who live there, presenting their home beautifully, telling its story, and creating marketing that helps buyers fall in love before they’ve even stepped through the front door.
Whether I’m styling a room before photography, filming a property tour, negotiating an offer, or reassuring a nervous seller, I genuinely love every part of what I do. My recent visit to the Chelsea Flower Show reminded me just how special these David Austin Roses really are. They look beautiful, smell incredible and every year they seem to bring the garden to life.
I’ve always felt gardens are often overlooked when selling a home, but if you’re clever with it, outside becomes another room entirely.
We’ve even got a little bee who has made itself at home in a tiny hole in the wall beside them, proof that the smallest details often create the most character.
Because buyers rarely remember every square foot. They remember how a home made them feel.
